Q. What do the statistics look like for the Level 2 and above accounts?
A. We use a program called Summary to process our logs and provides stats for the past years worth of activity. The stats for the MacServe.net site are here as an example. We also provide some real time stats for our customers. This link is provided when signing up.
Q. We use a Windows PC, do you support connections for us?
A. Of course. We support connections to our servers for our customer using standard FTP. We have found WS_FTP to be a competent FTP client.
Q. Where do the names of the servers come from?
A. Our general naming scheme is primarily based on those individuals featured in the Think Different ad campaign by Apple, but was expanded to cover other influential historical figures. Example, we have a server named Woz (after Steve Wozniak) and another named Copernicus.
Q. Where do the names of the shared folders come from?
A. The names of our customer aggregation directories come from the names of U.S. Navy Carriers.
Q. What can I do to alleviate the amount of SPAM I receive?
A. You can do any combination of the following:
- Although the MacServe.net mail system is one of the most advanced and sophisticated, there will always be spam that gets through. The Mail program in Mac OS X has some built-in intelligence to tag spam.
- Report spam you receive to SpamCop (www.spamcop.net). We utilize their blocking system and it helps to reduce the load of spam.
- Send your spam to abuse@macserve.net
We will analyze it and see if there are certain items in the message that we can add to our filters to reduce future spam.
Q. Is there a bandwidth limits for my website? I don't anticipate high traffic.
A. We don't impose any hard quotas on our client's sites, but we do keep an eye on our servers and if we see an inordinate amount of traffic coming from a site on a consisitent basis, we will work with that client to place them into the package that best fits their needs and keeps everyone happy. Having said that, when pressed for a specific number, we quote 2GB of bandwidth per month for our Level 1 package.
